WHAT CAUSES THE SMELL AFTER IT RAINS?

Have you ever stopped to think why there is such a distinctive smell after it rains? Rain has no scent until it hits the ground, but scientists have identified the mechanism that releases the fragrance of rain into the environment.

The scent known as Petrichor, meaning the smell that is produced when rain falls on dry soil after a long period of warm/dry weather.
