Over the past few years standing desks have become more popular in offices everywhere. Until now the negative side effects to sitting too long have been weight gain, back pain, low energy etc. Now thanks to A new study done by researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles we can attribute memory loss to too much sitting.
In particular the study linked secondary behavior to the thinning of the medial temporal lobe. Brain thinning can be a predecessor to cognitive decline and dementia in middle age and older adults. The participants in the study reported that they sat on average of 3 to 7 hours per day. Researchers noted the association between sitting for long periods of time and thinning structures but were unable to prove that sitting led to the thinning of the brain structure.
Researchers at the University plan to continue the study, this time surveying people that sit for even longer periods of time in order to dictate if sitting causes the thinning of the brain structure. They have also noted that they will investigate whether gender, weight and race play a role in brain heath.

Stand up, walk around, and stretch!
Not only important for your health but equally important to your brain. Try to exercise at least 3 days a week to improve memory, logic, and blood flow to the brain.
