Same team, same service, stronger brand: Hobson Prior is now R&D Partners. Learn more about this change.
When a surgical robotics company needed to fill two highly specialised engineering roles simultaneously, they turned to R&D Partners. With tight timelines and niche requirements, they needed a partner who could deliver, without compromising on quality.
Following a successful placement for a senior software engineering role, R&D Partners became the exclusive recruitment partner for a surgical robotics company specialising in radiosurgery.
The VP of Engineering approached us with two urgent vacancies: one for a UI/API Engineer and another for a senior Treatment Planning Systems (TPS) generalist. Both roles were critical to the company’s 12-month development roadmap, but the team was concerned about the pressure of hiring for both simultaneously.
Having already built a strong partnership with the client, we had a deep understanding of their development goals, team dynamics, and employer brand. This allowed us to move quickly and represent them effectively to our medtech engineering network.
After a detailed briefing, we prioritised the TPS generalist role while continuing to nurture candidates for the UI position. We developed a streamlined shortlisting process to reduce the burden on the hiring manager and ensure only well-vetted candidates were submitted.
Within three working days, we introduced seven qualified candidates for the TPS role. One stood out, and we worked closely with the client to fast-track the process and secure their acceptance—completing the hire in just two weeks.
For the UI role, we identified a strong candidate but the hiring manager had concerns about their transition from a large corporate environment to a fast-paced start-up. To address this, we proposed a “try-before-you-hire” model, contracting the candidate through our US entity to allow both sides to assess fit before committing to a permanent offer.
The TPS generalist was hired and onboarded within two weeks, keeping the development roadmap on track.
The UI engineer began working on a contract basis, with both sides now collaborating successfully under a flexible arrangement. The client continues to partner with R&D Partners for specialist engineering hires as they scale.
