Seasonal Research Assistant

Get hands-on with real horticulture research and help bring better berries to life.

R&D Partners is seeking a Seasonal Research Assistant (SRA)to join a strawberry breeding programme at our site in Kent. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in horticulture research while developing professional skills in teamwork, time management, and practical problem-solving.

Please note that to be considered for this role you must have the right to work in this location.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with the crossing programme, including pollination, fruit collection, and seed extraction.
• Collect and process leaf samples from the field, glasshouse, and lab.
• Conduct fruit evaluations, including twice-weekly assessments on harvested fruit.
• Perform post-harvest assessments of fruit.
• Collect and record data from field and glasshouse-based trials and experiments.
• Support laboratory activities, including media preparation and maintenance of micropropagated material.
• Perform plant propagation in field, polytunnel, and glasshouse environments.
• Accurately input data into software packages.

Key Skills and Requirements:

• Interest in horticulture/plant sciences and a willingness to learn.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow protocols and instructions.
• Enthusiasm with good organizational and time management skills.
• Capability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Desirable:

• Full UK driving license.
